I have wifi at the moment and on all my devices I get around 50 mbps down 10 mbps up and 20ish ping. I don't see a whole lot fluctuations but I have not ran it hard. My gaming build is now complete and I am wondering if I should get a pci card or powerline. Pci that I am looking at is $35 and powerline is $90.

Solution
The top end wireless will tend to have more total throughput...maybe 300m/sec with 802.11ac. Most the powerline stuff tops out at about 100m.

Powerline tends to be more consistent because it is less susceptible to interference. It is going to mostly be a trade off of higher speed with random packet loss or lower speed with little or no loss.
For games they use very little bandwidth but do not tollerate loss. For video they need more speed but tolerate packet loss much better.

Now if you only go to the internet then you will be limited on speed to the 50m you buy since both are much faster.

If you stream uncompressed blue ray or copy large amounts of data to a nas the speed may be important. If you ONLY look at gaming...

Nothing is wrong with it I just cannot run a cable to it. The router is downstairs and the Mrs. gave me the no go on running it along the wall or breaking open the ceiling. I want the best possible game play experience but at the same time I do not want to spend money on things that don't add benefit. My laptop will still get around 20 ping while someone is using Netflix in another room through wifi so is this ideal or will powerline still be better?
