My brother is a console gamer who believes that the PS4 is superior to PC's, even the super high-end computers! I'm trying to convince him to switch over to PC (and at times I'm close, especially when he watches me play Crysis 3 on max settings with 50-60 fps) All I need is for someone, who is smarter and more convincing than me, to describe why high-end PC's will give a better gaming experience. All help is gratefully appreciated!

Why is a high end computer a better investment than a PS4 or such?

First, lets start with the games in general. PS4 has its own games, PS3 has its own games, and you can't play any of those PS2 classics (GTA:San Andreas for starters) on any of the systems. In comparison, I can start up GTA San Andreas if I darned well feel like it. I could also start BF3 on the same system as well as games like Diablo and Minecraft, etc. You also have to get new games for any console that you purchase.

Also, the online community moves with the consoles (generally). When the 360 came out, the original Xbox community just died. On a PC, there will always be an online community.

Now, we can talk about hardware. I've got an Intel i5-2500K. It was made...

Now, we can talk about hardware. I've got an Intel i5-2500K. It was made almost 3 years ago by Intel. Today, it is regarded as one of the greatest processors of all time and still can keep pace with Intel's new i5-4670K. It is only 5% slower in any given situation. The graphics card I have had for the same amount of time, and I can play almost any game on high.

Why is it a better investment? Think of the things you can do with the computer over a console? Right now I am typing an essay on the Ford Motor Company pre-WW1, listening to Spotify, surfing the internet, and looking for a new car. And they say that the PS4 does everything.

If I wanted to, at the click of a button, I could just open up the game I have been playing lately, which happens to be the Assasin's Creed series.

Now, what is your brother going to be doing when the PS5 comes out? Probably shelling close to $500 for the new console and a few games and controllers. What are you and I going to be doing when it comes out? Probably nothing. Because we already have our computer to play on.

Also, if you build it out right, your computer is going to last a very very long time. One of my older computers runs an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+, which is one of the first dual core processors ever to hit the market. It was made in 2007. It still plays games, I commonly play League of Legends and Killing Floor with my friends.

Thats the good thing about PC games; the popular ones are coded to run on a plethora of computers.

There is more to it, but I have to get back to this essay. Cheers!

well, first off, both (console and pc) have advantages and disadvantages. So saying one is better than the other is inaccurate, unless we are talking about hardware specs or maximum graphics detail possible. There are countless threads in countless forums debating about this.
in terms of gaming experience, it varies.

in terms of shooter (bf4, crysis, et al), pc is better due to the graphics (assuming your rig can handle it) and the keyboard and mouse.
but it other types of games, it depends actually. Consoles also have advantages, like not needing to upgrade every so often.

i'm a pc guy, i own both ps3 and xbox360 (both are eating dust). what i love about pc is the ability to do everything else.
example, i play bf4 (almost) everyday, i can alt+tab and do something else, like read, search youtube, read emails/messages. then get back to the game within a second

PCs are way more upgradeable for eg. You could replace your GPU only or your CPU only if there are more upgrade paths, add more RAM, add HDD or SSD space, learn how to overclock by upgrading performance by yourself. if you build a PC and in a few years want to buy a new one you could simply sell your old PC and have extra money for your new system. Whereas consoles: once a new one comes in town you won't be able to sell the old one that easily due to the new games coming out on the new one. For PC there are a LOT more games than consoles. Another thing is that when you play on a console it really isn't able to play on MAX or ULTRA settings what it actually plays on is medium - high so naturally a computer generates a lot better image quality and eye candy (which is what kids tend to lean towards). On PCs you can play games like Dota, Warcraft 3, and other strategy games that require a mouse. On a PC you could play music, watch movies or listen to them if your going to be playing at the same time. Multitasking is much easier on a PC. Your brother could type out his homework or use the apps that a PC has like a calculator and listen to music at the same time. You can make a PC of all sizes m-itx, m-atx, ATX, eatx, SSI EEB etc. If on is playing a game I would much prefer playing on a PC, it feels a lot more real for eg. MUCH faster response timings, real feel etc.

A console is boring, just plug and play lol.

Thanks for the responses, I've pretty much described everything said in your responses but never all at one time so know I can just have him take a look at this thread, and who knows, maybe he'll have a change of heart. =] Thanks again, we may have a new PC gamer among our ranks within the next few hours lol.
