Why is a high end computer a better investment than a PS4 or such?
First, lets start with the games in general. PS4 has its own games, PS3 has its own games, and you can't play any of those PS2 classics (GTA:San Andreas for starters) on any of the systems. In comparison, I can start up GTA San Andreas if I darned well feel like it. I could also start BF3 on the same system as well as games like Diablo and Minecraft, etc. You also have to get new games for any console that you purchase.
Also, the online community moves with the consoles (generally). When the 360 came out, the original Xbox community just died. On a PC, there will always be an online community.
Now, we can talk about hardware. I've got an Intel i5-2500K. It was made almost 3 years ago by Intel. Today, it is regarded as one of the greatest processors of all time and still can keep pace with Intel's new i5-4670K. It is only 5% slower in any given situation. The graphics card I have had for the same amount of time, and I can play almost any game on high.
Why is it a better investment? Think of the things you can do with the computer over a console? Right now I am typing an essay on the Ford Motor Company pre-WW1, listening to Spotify, surfing the internet, and looking for a new car. And they say that the PS4 does everything.
If I wanted to, at the click of a button, I could just open up the game I have been playing lately, which happens to be the Assasin's Creed series.
Now, what is your brother going to be doing when the PS5 comes out? Probably shelling close to $500 for the new console and a few games and controllers. What are you and I going to be doing when it comes out? Probably nothing. Because we already have our computer to play on.
Also, if you build it out right, your computer is going to last a very very long time. One of my older computers runs an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+, which is one of the first dual core processors ever to hit the market. It was made in 2007. It still plays games, I commonly play League of Legends and Killing Floor with my friends.
Thats the good thing about PC games; the popular ones are coded to run on a plethora of computers.
There is more to it, but I have to get back to this essay. Cheers!
