Overclocking/CPU support for MSI 760GMA-P34

MSI 760GMA-P34 board FX-4300 stock cooler/heat-sink fan,

MSI states on their site that this board will handle the 8xxx series/ 8 core CPUs? 125w really????
That would be sick if it does!? lol

I have got the Fx-4300 up to 4.4ghz currently Ocing in BIOS just increased FSB a little, ram is up to 1866ish as well, so far the temps are very stable for my mild gaming purposes lol cpu so far has not even got close to 60c even with stock crappiest/flimsy heat-sink I ever seen lol at this speed stays in that 40-55c I'm impressed, so I now really want to get a nicer fan/cooler and get it up close to 5ghz!?! xD

I can tell already this cpu really wants to come alive when you start getting up there xD

This board it seems no one likes it and its sub-par etc, I don't know would it be worth putting an 8 core on it?

MSI motherboard (Your socket especially + 970) + AMD 8 core CPU + OC = Chaos. Though the board can support an 8 core CPU, which it will ok if you don't OC. If you want to OC, I suggest you go for a Gigabyte 970A - UD3 or Asus M5A97 R2.0 EVO, that's the only 970 boards that'll do well at OC, if you want full potential from the 8 core, you go 990FX chipset.

5GHz with your motherboard and your CPU (forget the cooler, as that won't help), is just one word, unstable. An unstable overclock is not good, in any case.

well lets say I did put an 8 core on it and don't OC at all would the performance increase be substantial enough to be worth it? it does sound like really should get a 970 board to take full advantage of the 8 core cpu's though, older chipset just won't do it any justice I guess?

well I'm still pretty impressed with the old fx4300 I wonder if 6300 6 core is much better? once I get my R9 270 and PSU should run pretty damn good I'm thinking xD

970 board does take full advantage if you don't OC, 990FX takes full advantage. With your situation, It would give a pretty big increase in performance, but you cannot OC. The age is not the issue, the chipset is not designed for overclocking in the first place.

If you do get the FX 8150, the best 8 core you can get, I would strongly suggest you get a 990FX board later, which will only cost $105 on newegg for a very good ASRock 990FX PRO3.

It would be pretty cool to get one of the FX 8xxx series 8 cores and put on there for shits and giggles to see how much better/improved it would be lol, then you are right then later on down the road get a 990 board lol, would make hell of rig for battlefield 4 paired up with a good R9 that's for damn sure lol, would really help with elder scrolls online too that's no where near as demanding though lol, the FX4300 boggs down quite a bit more than I figured it would with ESO, reason i OCed it a little lol, that and still rockin the old 5750 man damn thing is 5-6 years old Oced the piss out of it for majority of that time it just will not die lol, never even applied any new thermal paste to it that whole time!! its dry/old as hell and temps still only get as high as 60-65c haha just been trying kill it somewhat haha,

by all means, get the FX 8150 now, it's a great CPU and you'll get great performance increases, as long as you don't OC, your all set. Just have yourself ready to get a 990FX chipset in the near future, along with a titan R9 295X2!!!, which is dual R9 290X's liquid cooled, which'll cost you around $1500USD for one. But if you ever get something like that, I'll be dammed.

Oh, Intel are on top with their CPU's, AMD lacking behind in game performance with their CPU's. No AMD processor could touch my i7 4930k Hex core, that's why I got it.

update got the fx4300 up to 4.5ghz lol increased FSB/ as well as core voltage a little more, I believe its a bit more stable now and running lower temps etc, is 62c really max temp for this CPU?, the difference in performance is almost negligible being the GPU is so outdated lol

well HW monitor was giving some bogus readings on CPU and NB lol figures, got core temp going now its right,

so the fx 4300 being Oced to 4.5ghz, that's like getting close to i3 Performance?

62 degrees for max is quite good..for 4.5GHz!!! especially with that CPU. But that is within operating temperature and is fine, only be worried if the temps were above 80 degrees max.

yeah its not bad it runs mostly in the 45-55 Celsius range full load at 4.5ghz gaming, i'm impressed lol, well my Arc gaming case has damn good airflow and 3 fans xD

just cut the side panel off and add an industrial fan (around ~80cm), that'll give your PC the cool it needs.

can you tell me the exact BIOS settings you're using? I have an fx-6300 (95W stock) on the same mobo and I can't get it to overclock at all. it's even crashed after a while on the OS when using the "OC genie". and btw running this stock with an r9 270 and 8gb 1866Mhz ram handles bf4 at max settings no problem, though at 1440x900. maybe I just got a subpar mobo :-\

I upgraded a fx-4300 to a fx 8350 on the 760gma-p34 fx and didn't notice a big improvement.

I may be too late on this, but just in case it is searched again, I have the MSI board you speak of, and was running the 4300, and did push the upgrade to the 6350fx, There is a very noticeable difference in the speed, but also the heat. My core temp when playing games was only hitting about 48C, the newer 6350 has pushed it to 53C, and a couple of times i hit 55-56C. I dare not OC for fear of overheating.

Update on my last post: I went to a liquid cooling system (Corsair H60), got the FX6350 up to 4.9 and temps running in the 30-40 range. So far it has been stable, no shutdowns or BSODs. Everything looks good so far. I also have 4 fans now, top mount, rear mounted, and 2 side mounted (the side is the most open area around my pc.)
