Hi All - I was trying to help a friend with a Toshiba L25-S119 laptop running Windows XP. She has an Atheros wireless device in the computer and she accidentally deleted her wireless LAN in Network Connections.

Rebooting / and having Device Mgr Scan for changes brought up the various dialog boxes but none found and reinstalled the driver. It doesn't show in device mgr and didn't at any time after any of these attempts.

I downloaded the driver from toshiba - even though the specs on the Toshiba sight list the Atheros wifi card, the driver was Intel. i figured they know what they're doing but when it was run on friends computer it said could not find hardware and though I click proceed anyway - nothing more shows up on screen from it. Next I pointed the add new hdwe dialog to C:/windows/system32/drivers but it also did not complete an installation.

I have her running sfc now but it seems extreme for the situation. Anyone experience anything similar or have any advice. I would be grateful.

Thank in Advance

dave

What exactly do you mean you installed an intel driver on an atheros card? You shouldn't be able to with automatic installers. Using device manager or another program like speccy or HwINFO and find the brand of the card. Since you've already tried OEM drivers, have you tried generic ones directly from Atheros? Some laptops have different versions in different countries or price ranges with different specs but under the same umbrella name for marketing purposes.
You may need to clean up the intel driver installation before installing the Atheros. Intel should provide software for this. Otherwise google and pick our favourite third party cleaning software e.g. DriverFusion.

Thank you ttjambe - When I went to the Toshiba support site and looked up the computer model - in the specs was listed the Atheros wireless card - oin the drivers was listed an Intel wifi driver - so that's what I took.

In the meantime the friend did a reinstall so that fixed it. Now she's spending the day reinstalling her programs.

Thanks to everyone who offered help.
