What do you guys think is the best video card I can put into this rig? Bought this pre-made but it can't game anything :(I was thinking about installing a GTX 660, but I wasn't sure. Really need some advice, thanks.

MoBo: 760GM-P34FX MSI
Processor: AMD FX-4300
Current GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6450
500W power supply
8GB RAM
Windows 7

Solution

Your power supply is extremely bad, dont trust this brand. Hardware secrets do a review of Turbolink ATX TL-450watt and they say it is a fake 450watt psu, it only delivers 240watts, so ur 500 watt psu is likely to be the same.

I recommend you to buy a 80+ certified psu from corsair, antec or seasonic like Seasonic 520watts or corsair CX500 or atleast CX430.
Yes all gpu are backward compatible with pcie 2. .

So if I were to go with something like this I should be okay (link below)? Also the MoBo says 2.0 PCI Express, but most newer GPUs are backwards compatible correct?

Yeah, for sure. You can sport a 660 no problem. As for PCI-e, it won't make any different. PCI-e is PCI-e, at least as far as compatibility matters. When you see a card saying it has 3.0, that just means it will support up to 3.0, but it will work on any PCI-e slot. Almost no card on the market can saturate PCI-e 3.0's bandwidth, and the 660 is one of them. You'll see no difference whatsoever running the 660 in PCI-3 2.0. That will be a good upgrade for you.

Here is a list of all 600-series cards from $185 to $300, and they are all 660s:
