so I just got a GeForce gtx 780. put it in and tried assetto corsa. the game loads, the ui is there, but when I go to start I get the message that my graphics card is not compatible with the game, something about directx version.
I checked my comp. says it is dx 10, is this even possible? I thought all 780 cards were dx 11?

More about : gtx 780 directx

Update your DirectX it is free. You did not say which windows you are on but XP no Vista has to get updated to SP3!

All GTX 780's support DirectX 11 and will support DirectX 12 when it comes out too. Your game probably just haven't installed the DirectX version for the game properly or something (even if you have DirectX installed your games still need to install specific files for that game.

You should in Steam right-click your game, click on "propeties", "local files" and click "valiate game data", it will check if your game is missing any files, might be it will update DirectX.

The specs for the card means only that it's compatible with DirectX 11

That doesn't necessarily mean you've got DirectX 11 installed. It's up to you to make sure you have it.

That DX11 on the CPU is the one installed so as it says above it is a game issue.

it is either the game problem or something specific to nvidia. try looking on steam forums if there were similar case to yours

why does pc wizard tell me the card supports dx 10.1 only?

techPowerUp GPU-z says dx support is 11.0?

after make sure you have directx properly installed:

I didn't think i'd have to uninstall the amd drivers, so no, I didn't.
now i'm not sure I want to, in case I cant get the 780 running.

Driver conflict may be your issue! Rule of thumb is to uninstall all drivers especially going between AMD and Nvidia cards!

ok, i'll give that a try.

can someone please point me in the right direction to find the driver files I need to delete?

Right click the start button and click "Run" (or whatever it is in win 8.1)

type "dxdiag" and run it

What does the current version say at the bottom? If it doesn't say 11, then update directx

directx 11 is in windows, as it should.

my problem is the gtx780 is dx 10 support? and I cant seem to change it. uninstalled amd drivers, uninstalled and re-installed nvidea drivers. triple checked for dx 11 in windows. but the game and pc wizard seem to think the card supports dx 10.

gonna return the card. whoever heard of a 780 without dx 11?

Does it only do it in that one game, or does it have a problem with every game? Could be an issue with that game and not your gpu.

this card does not support dx 11. pc wizard reads it as dx 10. so is it even really a 780? pc wizard says it is. so does GPU-z.

however GPU-z also tells me it supports dx11. AAAAAGH!

such thing will never happen. because 780 is based on GK110 and the chip have all the hardware needed for DX11 compliant. have you tried doing clean driver uninstall using DDU via safe mode? and if possible try to reinstal the game as well. the game you're having problem is an early access game from steam so it could still in alpha or beta state. try running benchmark suite like 3Dmark 11 or Unigine Heaven in DX11 mode

I ran the unigine heaven benchmark, 8-12 fps.

also, what if it's not a REAL 780 card. I've heard there are fakes with a hacked bios to make it seem like a 780.

8 to 12FPS?

That suggests either a fake card (which I didn't know happened) or more likely a software issue.

Your best bet, if possible, might be to get a spare Hard Drive to install Windows and the basic drivers (motherboard main chipset + NVidia) to see if it will work.

Leave the other hard drives unhooked.

If that's working then either do a complete reinstall or troubleshoot further.

well, it's definitely a fake card, compared other numbers from gpu-z with numbers from another 'real' 780' and a lot of them were off.

including bios number, texture and pixel fillrate numbers were WAY down. and upon closer inspection the dxdiag numbers showed different numbers for 'feature levels'. mine being 10.0,9.3,9.2,9.1
his card read 11.0,10.1,10.0,9.3.....etc. ( these number indicating the Dx support).

so lesson learned, and i'm on the hunt again for a new card.

and thanks everyone for all the help and replies, much appreciated.

I'd also like to know this so we know where to avoid. Do you mind telling us:
a) The Store/site,
b) Model, and
c) Price you payed?

If possible, it would be nice to know if you get your money back. If you bought it through E-bay for example, you might have no problem. I'm not sure now but several years ago I got burned though it was through PAYPAL that I got reimbursed. Basically I submitted a request and the seller has the option to reimburse with no consequences.

What really pissed me off was the number of fake products on E-bay. It's insane.

Did you know the United States military had fake CPU's in a lot of their hardware?

hi, sorry for the late response.
purchased online from Alixpress, from China, I have done this before with other products, but this time I neglected to check if it was a Gold supplier.
a person can find legitimate deals if they're careful. I wasn't this time.
price was 120.00.
went through the dispute process and was reimbursed, still have the card. not sure what model it really is, guessing maybe a 430?
