I am still stuck on THE perfect mobo for DAW and Gaming. But...

I think I have found The one!
ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer LGA 1150

If I can do better, please let me know as I have been looking for the right one for 3 months.
I am Not worried about Price,

Parts I have on hand are;
i7 7700k
H100i Cooler
Kingston SSD240GB
Thermaltake Chaser Mk 1 Full Tower (VN300m series)
Win 7 Pro
Sonar X2 Studio
So, my original question remains - can I do better than this board?

Also, I am unsure of the type of Ram i need. I have heard stories of Ram being too tall.

Thank you for your time!

One thing...

ASUS Maximus VI HERO, VERY nice board, brings high-end board stuff to the mid-end.
Like the integrated SupremeFX sound, which sounds pretty nice, both in gaming and for music. I got this board myself and trust me, I'm not recommending it only because i have it, it's pretty popular on the interweb too. ;)

EDIT: oh and for the RAM, the stories about too tall ram are all from people who use air coolers, us with H100i's doesn't need any space around the CPU area.

You'll need DDR3 ram, at around 1600-2400mhz speed, and not a too high CL count either. you should buy a kit of two ram sticks since socket 1150 runs dual-channel ram. So should be 2x4GB or if you want more RAM, 2x8GB. Not a single, three or four sticks, only two.
Etc. 1600mhz CL8, 1866mhz CL9, 2133mhz CL10, 2400mhz CL11 are all good basic numbers for different ram speeds.

SupremeFX is just one of the latest Realtek chips BTW.

However, the HERO board is close to $200 and the Asrock he asks about is $120 (after MIR) so I suspect he isn't interested in spending that much.

The Asrock he chose looks pretty good, and got a VALUE AWARD here:
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asrock_z87_fatalit...

Performance is within 1% for all Z87 motherboards likely because the bottleneck would be the CPU or GPU not the PCIe bus.

DDR3 memory:
There's little to no benefit in going beyond 1600MHz. Just get a 2x4GB kit (about $65 USD).

CPU:
*You mention an "i7 7700K" that you have on hand? Do you mean an i7-3770K, A10-7700K, or what?

He did say and i quote "I am Not worried about Price," and i expect that he mean't that, especially since the have the H100i and the i7 4770K in there ("i7 7770K" on a Z87 board, can really only be the 4770K). a $200 mobo in this kind rigs priceclass is totally normal, heck i have a lower priceclass and still use the HERO board.

For the soundcard i know it's just realtek, but it's one of the better chips which isn't normally used in other mobos, though i also see now he probably already have a soundcard. So it's almost obsolete to him. :)

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. And yea, I mistyped the cpu - 4770k is what I have.

That Asrock's Value award (along with the reviews) is exactly why I asked about it, or if there was something better before I hit a Check out button somewhere.
But I have to say, that Hero board is looking good.
Before I Do hit the Buy button somewhere, I will need to do a bit of research on it for it's DAW side, but this is exactly why I asked - to have at least 1 comparison to a similar z87 board.
Thank you both for your time, I can always count on this site to help and you did exactly that!
Regards,
Rustyd
