I would be doing gaming only probably at 1440p.

CPU - i5 4670k.

the radeon card is $50 cheaper and i dont mind it running noisier or hotter till the time it delivers performance.

Also specify which company is best? msi sapphire gigabyte asus or some other?

regards

I went the same route with 1440p and got myself a Gigabyte GTX 780Ghz, its been nothing short of excellent, so I'd say 780. The preference of company will vary between people, I usually buy MSI, but was torn between the Gigabyte, MSI Lightning and EVGA Classified, the gigabyte ended up going on sale the night I bought it for 509$ so I went with it, if you wont OC too much yourself and dont want to hassle buy one of the ones I mentioned, my gigabyte runs at 1163mhz out of the box. If you want to OC yourself, you will do well with the Asus one for example.

R9 290 is more powerful but heats more and consumes more power. Personally, I would go for performance and pick a non reference 290.

the msi twin frozr is only a few degrees behind the sapphire on the 290 and as far as noise their fairly even, and for $420, i find it hard to recommend spending almost $100 for a 780. both cards offer tremendous amounts of performance and for all intent purposes they are even in games once you factor in an average modest overclock.

edit: i just noticed the sapphire tri-x 290 has come down a little in price since a few days ago to $430 rebate free....

at that price the sapphire is a better buy over the msi.
