I am trying to figure out if these two different CD drives that were previously in and old desktop are worth trying to convert into usage for a laptop that currently has no CD drive- The drives I pulled are a CD R/RW LG GCE-8160B from 2001 and a CD drive GCR-8481B from 2002- I know the hardware is a little old but I feel like it should be salvageable but I just don't know how- please help
Is there any way to convert a previously internal Cd R/RW drive to external use for a laptop without a CD drive?

Those old CD drives are probably PATA IDE drives using a flat ribbon cable to connect to the mother board.
Adapters ARE available to convert from PATA to USB. One of these might work.
