Color Distortion In Full Screen

I have a TV hooked up to my computer via HDMI, and I'm using it as my monitor. The TV is this TV:
http://store.vizio.com/m320sl.html
(VIZIO 32" LED LCD 120Hz)

The TV is connected to my EVGA GTX 680 2GB.

A few months ago, when I would view a full-screen video at 1080p, then the my TV would momentarily go black, then flash back on with the colors all horribly distorted, most noticeably the flesh tones would be a single peach-colored blob and all the colors look shifted. I was able to make the colors normal again by turning my TV off and on, or switching it from Game Mode (on/off).

However, this has now begun to happen when I'm scrolling down my Facebook news feed, and it seems that it's something with Adobe Flash Player in addition to the full-screen 1080p videos.

I have updated my GPU drivers, and I have ensured that my TV has the latest firmware (?) to the best of my knowledge. Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

My TV does not have a DVI port to connect to, only VGA, and if I connect it to my computer with anything other than an HDMI then I cannot use my TV's speakers.

I've used a VGA cable with my TV on other computers, and it does not demonstrate this problem, only when I use the HDMI port.

thats what you need to check on this tv and this computer . That the problem does not occur .

If thats the case you could try
1/ a new HDMI cable
2/ a new tv

FWIW , I have had many issues with htpc, graphics drivers , and my tv . The solution in the end was to buy a set of speakers and then use vga . Now its perfect .

you could use a "dvi to hdmi" cable. in fact this is how i export out of my pc to use with my tv (i dont have a hdmi port on my video card). dvi-d on modern video cards DOES output sound.

if you havent already then yes i would try a different cable. however, typically if its a cable issue you will notice the problem all the time instead of just some of the time.

let me get this right... you only have issues when you are playing full screen video? and now... facebook? what kind of video player were you using and what source file? does it appear this way fullscreen playing dvds on wmp or are you referring to online video like youtube?

if this only seems to happen with flash player (like youtube) or htm5 player then you could check to see if you have hardware acceleration turned on or not.

does the tv act up with any other sources using this particular hdmi input on the tv? (also can you swap to a different hdmi input and does it act the same?

That might not help because the HDMI problem seems to be with the TV . Its restarting the TV that fixes the issue after all

well, if they have another tv in the house or another monitor... and hook it up and try the same thing it would be easy enough to tell if its the tv or if its the pc.

while i agree it sounds more like an issue with the tv you cannot rule it out unless you specifically do a test (such as the above) to help isolate the issue.

I've hooked up the same computer to a different monitor using HDMI and not had this problem, and swapped both cables and ports. I don't have any other HDMI devices to connect to this TV like a bluray player or whatever, but I guess I was just wondering if anyone had encountered this problem before, and if there were any known steps to stop it from happening?

Like I said, I'm able to correct the color balance by either restarting the TV or switching Game Mode on or off (simply changing it from off to on or vice versa will fix it). What exactly is "Game Mode" on this model of TV?

well... with that said it definitely does sound like an issue with the television.

game mode is typically the 60hz mode on 120/240hz.

once you turn on/off the game mode is it normally good from then on or does the issue happen again during the same session?

what you could try doing is turning game mode off and manually disabling 120hz mode and also motionflow (or whatever vizio calls it on their tvs) if you have it. perhaps there is a problem with the tv and the game mode option.

you could try contacting vizio support to see if they have any tv settings or firmware advice.

if that doesnt work then perhaps there is something wrong with the tv requiring repair.
