Hi,

Can i buy the asus maximus vi formula to run with gtx 780 lightning SLI and i7 4770K, or should i go for the extreme version ? I like the looks of the formula, but to get maximum performace maybe the extreme is the better choice ? thx in advance

More about : asus motherboard sli 780

Hero, Formula, Extreme, pretty much all the same for only dual cards. Or any of the other Z87 ASUS boards.

PCIe 3.0 @ 8x for each card. Third slot is PCIe 2.0 at 8x, can't be used for SLI.

What other features are you looking at? Formula has watercooling spouts on the VRM, one more fan header (I think) then the Hero, Extreme has a whole bunch of goodies, depends what you use it for.

Get "Hero" motherboard. others are not worth the money unless if you're going on crazy OC
You'll be fine with two way SLI on "Hero" motherboard. "Hero" and "Formula" motherboard are almost same except the looks and price :D

I would like to have as much space as possible between the two GPU's, otherwise they get to hot., but i also would like them to run in x16 x16 or x8 x8. (almost no differences between those speeds). Furthermore i plan to perform a decent overclock ( around 4.6Ghz if possible ), so the more features the better i think? Though i still have a CD with features that came from a msi z87 mpower max board, can i use that with the one i will buy ?

Any board you buy will come with its own software disc. The Hero comes with a lot of utilities. Your other disc's software probably won't work with it.

I got my i7-4770k to 4.5Ghz with relative ease, chip ran too hot, but the board didn't complain. PCIe 3.0 has a lot of bandwidth even at 8x, not going to bottleneck any modern cards.

I went to the Hero and have Asus 780 CUs in SLI with about a 25% OC on them and the 4770K at 4.6 - Fantastic combo! In sig

I went for the VI formula, so far i don't regret my decision. Though i'm struggling to get my 4770K past 4.3Ghz while stock voltage is around 1.080 volts ... Need to do some more tweaking i guess. Anyways guys thanks for the replies <3
