Wiping hard drive to use as secondary for new ssd

Hi there
Im getting myself an ssd today and wanted to completely wipe my old hdd (where everything is currently installed) it use as a secondary drive for the ssd. How do I do this and when do I do this (before or after setting up my new ssd)???

Install Windows to the SSD first. Plug in the old HDD, turn on the computer, go to My Computer, right click the HDD, and select format.

You can unplug the HDD, install the SSD and install Windows on it and re-attach the HDD after that's done. Then format the HDD. If there's any data on the HDD you do want to keep back it up first.
