Hi All,
I just bought a second 1920x1080 monitor to run off of my laptop. My laptop has Optimus, and it seems that the Intel video card can't handle the two HD monitors. I've made the nVidia card the default in the nVidia control panel, but when I go to the normal Windows control panel and look at the properties of the monitors, it says that the display adapter is the Intel card. Is there a way to make sure that whatever is responsible for displaying the...displays?...is running with the nVidia card? Also making one display run on one card and one on the other would work...Lastly, my laptop only has 1 port for display input/output (HDMI), so I'm using a VGA to USB 3.0 adapter to run the second display on. Thanks!

The issue is the usb adapter as they typically use their own weak gpu or emulate. Otherwise the intel is more than enough for 2x 1440p or 3 depending on the model. You could try to uninstall the intel drivers, then it would use the nvidia gpu all the time. But it's still emulating so may not help if it's being done on the cpu.

Is there any adapter that you would recommend that doesn't emulate or otherwise slow down by not using the host computer's GPU?

You need to use a video output but with only 1 hdmi, usb is the only way to add more monitors. Try lowering the hz or res on the usb monitor.
