Why can't I mute the sound?

So I recently got new headphones and when I use them, I can't seem to mute the sound. I checked my Realtek sound manager and it says that nothing is plugged into the audio jack. Sometimes if I fidget around with it then ti detects that it's plugged in and I can mute the sound. However because I keep taking my headphones off and on, it keeps on saying that it's not plugged in. I've tried reinstalling my sound driver, plugging it into the back audio jack, I've even tried plugging in other headphones and it seems to detect when I plug in my other headphones but not my new ones. So why is this happening?

Ok so here's what I see. I go to my realtek sound driver and it says my headphones aren't plugged in. I keep on fidgeting around with the wire until it says it's plugged in. So when it says it's not plugged in I can hear sound but I can't mute it. So why is this happening. And remember these are new headphones so no one tell me to buy new headphones.
