I currently have an AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-core 3.4 GHz processor and an MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 Motherboard. I wanted to overclock it, but my motherboard would not let me. I installed AMD Overdrive and ran the Auto-Clock feature. As soon as it set my CPU frequency above 4.0 GHz, my windows 7 theme changed to basic. When I went to desktop settings, it said that the Windows 7 Aero theme was currently chosen. I'm basically stuck in the windows 7 basic theme. Help!

Solution
I find this fiddly also to get it back to Aero theme, your going to have to do lots of clicking and then make sure you save it as your background after, don;t close it without applying!.

If this is not the case, it is due to your overclock, AMD CCC tends to change your theme to basic if an overclock is done, but it can't do the Aero theme, which it no doubt can but this is the same with CPU tests, it changes it to basic.

Okay, first what do you mean by "lots of clicking". Also, I tried running a windows experience test and it failed and gave me some error message. (All of this happened while my CPU was OC'd to 4.1 GHz) Plus theres no way to "apply" settings in the theme menu.

apply, meaning save changes. Every time i overclocked my i7 4930k, my theme was also changed to basic, try going to theme Aero, then you have to click several times on the aero theme, then on the sky tool bar below in the same menu, then you'll be able to save changes hopefully.

To make this easier look at this image, click on the windows 7 under aero theme (twice), then click on the "windows color" as it should be twilight, then there should be apply theme in the bottom right.
