Essentially this is my first time making a computer from scratch, and I have the money to afford a 780, for an extra $160 over the 770, and I was wondering if that would be a worthwhile investment. I essentially want to be able to run games like Skyrim and the upcoming Shadows of Mordor on Ultra at around 40-60 or more fps. Would the 770 be able to handle that dual screen or would I need to upgrade to the 780 or solo screen it? Also on another note do I need to get a top of the line cooler to keep a 780 from dying? Thankyou for any and all suggestions.

I'd get a 780. It uses gk110 gpu whereas 770 is older gk104 but overclocked like hell.

Check benchmarks and price/performance - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Any 780 with a custom ( as opposed to reference) cooler should be ok. Good brands - Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, MSI

I would get an Asus 780 as they're quality is amazing. Also, why don't you look into the Radeon R9 290 or 290X as they are pretty good gpus also

So if I go the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB Overclock Video Card that I'm looking at, I won't need any particularly special cooling? Just go with it as is or?

A friend of mine who knows a bit more about this stuff told me to essentially just stick with 770 or 780 to be on the safe side.

The safe side of what? The 780 and 290 have basically the same performance just different brands. Your friend must be a Nvidia loyalest.

Thankyou, I'm still a bit of a noob at this stuff, and I don't like making a purchase if it's going to turn out that I need to buy more in return later on. The help is appreciated,

Essentially at this point it's:

Case: 1 x Zalman Z3 Plus Mid-Tower ATX Case
CPU: 1 x Intel Core i5 4670 Quad Core LGA 1150 3.4GHz CPU Processor
Motherboards: 1 x Gigabyte G1 SNIPER B5 Intel LGA 1150 Motherboard
Memory: 1 x G.SKILL RipjawsX 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Desktop Memory F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
Video Card: 1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 3GB Overclock Video Card
Power Supply: 1 x Thermaltake SMART 750W 80Plus Bronze Power Supply
Storage (SSD & HDD): 1 x Seagate ST2000DM001 2TB Barracuda Desktop HDD 3.5” 7200RPM SATA3 Hard Drive
Storage (SSD & HDD): 1 x Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" SATA3 SSD
Optical Drive: 1 x Samsung SH-224DB (BB) 24x Internal SATA OEM DVD Burner Drive

And That equals to $1590 Australian Dollars. It will be Windows 7 aswell, but I have that already sorted.
