Good day,
I have been looking on internet Tn vs IPS because I'm building my first computer.
Basicly I'm looking for a monitor and was wondering what's the difference if both TN and IPS panel have the same response time (5ms)
I have been told that IPS is slower, but has better viewing angle and image quality. But if it has the same response time as TN will it be any different ?

Solution
I finally made the switch to IPS about 6 months ago. and I will tell you that I will never go back to a TN panel. I use it to game, watch movies, and all of my general computing needs. The picture quality is just better than old TN panels. They are more expensive, but I have seen them come down some (I am in the market for a second IPS panel as we speak). The monitor I decided on, was a 27" Dell, and so far I have no complaints. The way I figure it is, my old TN panels have lasted for many years, if the IPS panels last as long they will be well worth the investment.
On a final note, I was surprised how much I am taking advantage of the wider viewing angles. With the IPS panel, I can sit across the room and watch movies without...
TN displays are more of an old type of screen type compared to IPS.

TN screens tend to have fast response times 1-2ms, making them good gaming monitors. IPS screens tend to have 5ms response times, but the colours are better and the look can be classified as more crisp.

IPS screens won't tend to have a low response time below 4ms, which is no big difference really, it's more about the Hz and input lag rather then the response time.

All in all, I would much rather recommend an IPS screen.

Hope this helps.

With the IPS panel, I can sit across the room and watch movies without needing to be directly in front of the panel. Or, someone can observe me gaming, or whatever, without being directly behind my shoulder. Its really nice.
