hello guys, this is my current spec:

AMD FX-6300
Motherboard asrock 970 pro3
RAM 2x2gb Gskill pc12800
HDD 1tb wd blue
GPU gtx 460 cyclone
PSU superflower sf-500p12a

i got around $250-$270 for GPU upgrade, and im planning to get msi gtx 760 twin frozr
but in local forum i found a deal which is powercolor r9 280x for $301 (approximately, after converting my local currency to USD)

so guys, is it worth spending the extra dollars to get the r9 280x?
and another questions, can my psu handle it?
and if i get the r9 280x, will it bottlenecked my fx 6300?

i really appreciate your reply, and sorry if my english suck
thanks!

I would upgrade that power supply and the 6300 processor first.

No, no and simply no.

The GTX 460 was a mid-high range GPU when it was released and it is really outdated at the moment. The FX-6300 can easily handle a GTX 760, but you might see some bottlenecking with the R9 280X (depends on the application/game). Also, those AMD cards need a lot of power so it might be a better idea to get the GTX 760.

so if choose the R9 280x, there is a chance that my PSU can't handle it?

and in your opinion sir, if i choose GTX 760, how futureproof is it? is it possible that i wait for at least 4 years (just like my GTX 460) before i upgrade again?

Power Color is a long time brand but not as reputable as ASUS or MSI, and after read some review about Power Color R9 280x, i'm not exactly surprised that those reviews didn't gave 5 stars. so i'm between that Power Color R9 280x and MSI GTX 760 Twin Frozr.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-280x-r9-2...

As you can see, the 280X consumes 257W while bitmining, while the 760 only needs 155W. Pairing the R9 280X with your PSU will put a strain on the PSU. Also, your PSU doesn't have sufficient PCIe power connectors for the 280X (2x8 needed, you have 6 and 6+2).

As for being futureproof, the GTX 760 should run games for the next 4 years as long as lowering settings doesn't bother you.

In the light of all that I've just said, I'd get the MSI GTX 760 Twin Frozr, it's really, really quiet and performs well too.
