My Asus N53sv running Windows 7 seems to have developed a problem regarding the cd/dvd/br device (HD-ST-BDDVDRW CT30N). It plays DVD's fine but struggles with CD's. For example, Windows Media Player recognises the CD, (enough for album art, tracklisting etc) then seems to keep re-spinning the disc as if on first read and never settles or plays correctly i.e no sound. I've tried various discs (including brand new) and it makes no difference. Is this a driver (and or software conflict) issue? How do i diagnose and fix this?
General thoughts are -
A) Windows Media Player - is there a problem? Though it does recognise the discs
B) Lens Cleaning - Is it reasonable to assume the same lens works for DVD therefore should be fine for CD?
C) Upper, Lower Filters - I have come across something to this effect but uncertain about proceeding
D) Drivers - I cannot find a manufacturer (Hitachi -LG) driver for this unit. So i am at the mercy of the W7 generic driver. Though obviously this used to work when i bought my laptop
I really need help as music is one of my great passions and this laptop is my player- double HELP!

The simple answer is no. In fact the situation just got a little worse. I checked that VLC played movies/music on my hard-drive, that works fine. Though now neither VLC or Windows Media Player will recognise CD's or DVD's! Interesting.... does this suggest a conflict?
