For gaming, I have to say the i5 is better, because of the awesome performance per core and HT. You will lose a few fps by going with the FX but the FX gains in other fields that utilize 8 cores. But, if the FX is cheaper go for it. Because now that next gen games are starting to use more than 4 cores, you might be able to gain by doing this. Also, it is a great processor for the price.
