I'm upgrading my build and I don't know which would be a better upgrade as I don't think i can afford both. Is it worth upgrading one over the other or will they just bottleneck each other regardless of which i choose? Thanks

Solution
That 'old' 955BE is still a solid gaming CPU although it'll restrict a fast card like the GTX770/R9 280X a bit, particularly in the more CPU intensive games out there.
Of course you could add a better CPU cooler and overclock, after all it IS the unlocked BE chip. ;)
If you don't want to overclock then probably the closest match would be either the GTX760/670 or HD7950/R9 280, if you're happy with a little less eye candy or don't play on a 1080 display GTX660 (Ti if you can find one at a decent price) or HD7870/R9 270/270X.
Switching to a i7 with the current graphics card will give very little benefit, I suspect the GTX460 is already restricting the CPU as it is.

+1 to coozie7 with the phenom GTX760 would be as high as I go and the CPU will need to be overclocked to get most out of the upgrade. So any of those cards from GTX660 to GTX760 would be a instant upgrade in gaming vs the 4770K would still be limited with the GTX460.

Could you explain the difference between a GTX760/670? Which would you recommend a Radeon or a GTX.
Here is my monitor btw - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236052

worth getting a 4gb vs 2gb? and with my CPU is the 670 worth the extra cash or will it just get bottlenecked?

The GTX760 is a modified GTX670, and the GTX670 is slightly faster: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_760/
I've been using AMD for some years, largely because when I purchased, AMD offered the better value and I have no interest in the extra features of Nvidia cards: Better anti-aliasing (I don't use it), PhysX (ditto), live game streaming or the Nvidia Experience tool.
Only issues I've had with AMD are noise and a certain lack of smoothness in some games.
Both cards span pretty much the same price spectrum.
From a hardware point the only significant difference is the GTX760 comes with either 2Gb or 4Gb of memory while the R9 280 is fixed at 3Gb, and the 4Gb 760s are a fair bit more expensive.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with either but I'd probably go with the GTX760, just because its going to be a little cooler and quieter.

EDIT: Don't bother with a 4Gb card, it's not fast enough to use the memory (It's mainly going to be used for big textures and anti aliasing, but high levels of AA cripple the frame rate).
