Hi chaps.

I was in the process of building a minITX system mainly because I love the InWin 901 case. I actually have the inwin 904 but its just physically too big for my needs.

I will use the case for moderate gaming (noting future advancements in gaming) run Linux OS with windows 8.1 on a Virtual machine and a 30" Dell screen. I will overclock in a few years.

Given that upgrades are hard with a mini ITX (i.e. only 2 RAM slots, no ability for dual graphics cards etc) I want to get it right at the start. I was thinking about a system like this:

Case: Inwin901
MB: ASUS Maximus VI Impact Z87 ITX
CPU: i7-4770k - Already bought
GPU: GTX 770 - Don't really want to spend any more on this
RAM: Cosair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866 - Worth upgrading to Vengence Pro or Dominator series?
PSU: XTR 550W Fully Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply Don't see the point of a higher Watt.
Hard drives: I have 2 x 500GB HD and 1 x 250 SSD

Cooling: The case supports one 120mm bottom fan and one 90mm rear fan. I can see cooling being an issue and I have some constraints
A) I want the case as quite as possible but not at the expense of overheating the box
B) If using an Water cooler I would like the rad to be on the inside as shown in the inwin website
C) Price of cooling system is not really limiting given its not the most expensive component of the build

I was thinking about this
Intake fan: Scythe Kama Flow2 1900RPM Fan - 120mm I don't know the difference between the different Scythe 120mm fans
CPU Cooler: Raijintek Pallas 140mm Low Profile CPU Cooler + 92mm fan exhaust fan
or Water cooler: Corsair Hydro H60 V2 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
The H80i is too wide due to the 2 fans

The link to the case can be found here:

Many thanks all

John

PS: if anyone wants a brand new inwin 904, happy to sell it!

My contribution will be limited because I am not a gamer. But I am getting/ or building an i7-4770 system, no k. The motherboard you picked is a great one. I'll be using either the H87m pro or the z87-ws because my needs are more photo editing and I need the extra slots and esata.
As far as the case, i love that case, but can't use it because I need lots of external bays for hot swaps. but hardware canucks do a fantastic review of cases and you might not have seen their's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2FHCYlFfI8
If you have any doubts, this should clear it up. Though if you want to go nuts, look at this one from Inwin: http://www.pcper.com/category/tags/tempered-glass

thanks mhjacc, I looked at the review. Its good but doesn't address my questions above. I suppose my questions are outside the scope of that review. I have been using PC's for 30 years (started on zx spectrum 16k and we thought the 48k was huge memory at that time) but I see cases got bigger and now seem to get smaller given Ext OD are becoming less used, SSD's becoming cheaper. My personal view is that Mini ITX will be the way forward for a lot of main stream users like me. Its my first min ITX build hence the cooing issue is more of a concern, and ability to upgrade.

Can't decide if a water cooler or a (CPU cooler + external fan) is the way to go.
Also given I have 2 memory slots I wonder how much I should try increase the freq and decrease the cas latency before price becomes silly. I think Cosair vengence pro 16GB 1866Mhz CL9 is a good choice
