Hi guys I have a Seagate 4TB ST4000dm000 in my server and found it great and very fast but the only thing that is driving me mad is the chirping sound I hear evrytime someone accesses data on the drive for every bit of data you access it does that noise , I am adding more disks to the server so think of the sound with 4 more they will drive me nuts. So the question is do the wd 4tb red drives do the same noise? are they fast like the seagate? cos I was thinking of buying the wd, I really love the seagate drives and do not wish to go wd but if they do not make these sound thats what I will have to do. Thank you guys for all your help, I sent a email to seagate and they have told me to return the drive as that drive should not have any clicking sound, I spoke to the shop where I bought it from and he told me others have complained about the same clicking, and he told me it is normal, I do not think it is normal as seagate told me to return it but if it is I do not want a clicking drive it sounds horrible, think of how it sounds with 4 more in the server. by the way it also does a loud vibration when I startup the server from complete shutdown

Solution
i would rma it to seagate for the sound clicking that should not be doing it and find another shop to get your parts i would not go there to buy stuff with the answer he gave you .
