So what's the best recommendable Power supply at a cheap price? Don't want a defective unit frying the rest of my build or just dying on me a little while after I get it...

Solution
for the price of $25 to $50 i just cant recommend not going with a very highly rated xfx 550w power supply. yes its not modular, but its RELIABLE and made with high quality parts. you never want to skimp on a power supply.

and corsair cx power supply are budget units with budget parts and are tier 3 1/2 at best. they are average and likley reliable, but you can get much better for a few more bucks.

Actually there are ALOT of FSP and Corsair units that are barely or below average quality. DEFINITELY alot of units on that list I would never recommend.

I have an Antec VP-450, which I got for $37 on amazon. It is rated very well, above the Corsair CX430 (another good one to look up). The Corsair CX430 is $25 on newegg right now, after rebate. That is a very good PSU.

Good luck!

No, sorry. There are tier 4 units in that list. As well as the Cx units from Corsair which are BARELY average at very best. The FSP Raider units are tier 4 and are NOT good units.

The latter Antec seems nice and profitable^^

Really, which one(s)?

It does not have all the connectors (GPU) you need for your build.

The CX and CS (not 650w) units from Corsair are not very good. Average at best. And the FSP Raider units are tier 4 and very poor quality. There are some not so great Rosewills in there.

Guess nows a better time to ask than never: What's modular mean?

I've eliminated the Corsair CX series from my options due to negative feedback and I was so close to buying it too.

Whatever guys - he wants a good quality "budget" PSU. I keep a database of customer ratings for components, and these brands have the highest customer satisfaction, and they have decent ratings - maybe not always the best, but the OP did say "Budget".

The Corsair CX line has the highest Customer Satisfaction per dollar of any line on the market. And what you really want for a budget build is lowest probability of failure.

The CX units actually have a very high failure rate. Happens all the time. I have had 2 fail. One in my own computer and one in a friend's.

The use cheap junk capacitors that fail easily when exposed to nay heat. They are barely average quality PSUs.

The FSP Raider units are even worse and are pretty much junk to be honest.

Pspartpicker doesn't seem to tell of any incompatibilities. I guess it missed it?

Not sure if it would be a low end cpu or light gpu, but check for yourself

Yeh - I use the FSP SFX 300W all the time for lower power builds, but should have left those off the list. I'll still stand by the Corsairs for bang-for-the-buck. But if any of the Antec's, EVGA's, or Seasonic's are on special, they're definitely a step up.
