Hi, I am going to buy 8GB of Ram (Corsair vengeance). I am planning to upgrade to 16GB in about a year. I want to buy a 1x8 slot so that I could potentially have 32GB of ram. However, apparently a 2x4 slot is better. How much worse is a 1x8 slot and is there a big difference between the two types?

Solution
Memory - Corsair Vengeance 16gb Low Profile Memory DDR3 (2x8) so you already have 16gb. why would you need an upgrade. in that case i wouldnt by anything or by another 2x8 kit. 24gb wont br running as dual channel. anyway 16gb is more than enough for what you do. i would stay put.
are you into any video editing stuff? if yes then get 1x8gb, if not and you are just a gamer 2x4gb is your choise, you wont be playing with the same system when 32gb will be need for gaming.single channel will be a bigger drawback though on video editing than gaming.
