I currently have the following:

Processor: Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80GHZ
RAM: 4GB
System Type: 64 bit
Windows 7

Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 260

I'm only able to afford one thing at a time, so what should I upgrade first?

Ive been trying to run DayZ, but it lags like crazy

Not really enough detail, but your hardware is roughly 7-8 years old. There aren't really any individual parts you can upgrade.

At a minimum CPU, Motherboard, and Ram would need to be purchased.

You would also need a GPU upgrade.

I would go with the mid range CPU/Mobo/Ram that Eximo posted then spend the rest of your budget on this:

Video Card: MSI Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $149.98

Any recommendations for a CPU, Motherboard and RAM purchase?

How much are we talking? Or do you want a range of choices?

I can probably afford around $400.00 for those 3.

But providing a range would help me out a lot

Thank you

Maximum budget (overclocking) Aftermarket CPU Cooler required for overclocking, stock cooler will be okay until you can afford that upgrade.
