Should I be cautious with using old drives that have never been used?

I have some hard drives that have never been used and have been kept sealed and safe for about 7-years. The drives are dated from March 2006 and they are SATA Hitachi RPM7200 250GB.

I know drives have a finite lifespan, though does the age of the drives matter if they have been sealed and secured? Should I be cautious with using these?

Thanks.

I'm not too familiar with macs so I can't make any software recommendations. A quick google for S.M.A.R.T monitoring software mac brought up this:

It's not completely necessary. If it's a new drive you'll want to worry about unpredictable failures as opposed to predictable ones, which SMART is for. Like bgunner said, if data does get corrupted it will be pretty obvious within the first few months in windows
