Should I go I5 or I7

I have my build and I currently it has an I5 processer. I was wondering if it was worth the extra $100 and change to switch it to an i7 for my gaming computer build.

Solution
An i7 is only a marginal better than an i5 in gaming. Get the i5 and save $100 there really will only be a few frames difference when gaming.

I'd tentatively say, no. Not worth it. Given that most games will be console ports from the X1 and PS4, an Intel i5 quad runs rings around the octacore AMD chips found in the next-gen consoles. There is a tiny chance that a super (and I mean SUPER) poorly optimised port-across from the next gen consoles might use >4 threads that might be poorly handled by an i5 quad (as opposed to the i7 hyperthreaded quad).

I want to be able to play games like Dayz or total war rome 2 with high settings. I want to know if the I7 will be worth the extra $ to give me the higher settings

He doesn't need a 780 to max settings in 1080p, for the guy who doesn't know what he's talking about that mentioned it. A 770 is the sweetspot for 1080p. oczdude8, please don't give missinformation.
Here's an article with performance for the 770: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/05/31/nvidia-geforce-gtx-770-2gb-review/4
In other words, there is no "bottleneck", please refrain from commenting unless you have accurate information to speak.

Dude you have to chill-out. Seriously, you don need to insult someone if you think they are wrong.

Also (I couldn't resist), neither the OP or I mentioned 1080p or how many fps you will gain. I stated very clearly "It (780) will give you better performance in games". My comment was merely pointing out that if the OP has extra money to spend, its wiser to upgrade to a 780, as opposed to in i7.

I would recommend getting a SSD if you have the cash. Something just for the OS and main games (try for 500GB, but smaller if you have to), use the cheaper disc drive for storage. I have a very similar rig and Im telling you the SSD is a thing of beauty.
