I am Upgrading some parts in my pc and I have a Pre-installed version of windows 8 oem and I cant afford a new license for it... is there anyway for me to transfer my oem to a new mobo( i am keeping my i3 2130 from my bundled pc with the oem version on it ) and I wanted to know is this possible and how would I go about doing this, when you answer please be very clear

Solution
Most likely it is going to report change of hardware and need for phone call to MS for activation, system drivers are going to be almost same. Then install all the drivers for your new board.

For around the $100 price point you can get 3 keys to a version of Windows OS of your choice. I wouldn't risk changing the pre-installed OEM OS when it's not that expensive to just go out an get a new one.

Hi Theguywhoneedsinfo
when you install windows you will have the option to activate by phone , select that option , then you will be given a number to call microsoft and a series of codes ,
call microsoft explain what is you are doing , give them the activation codes and they will give you an alternate set of codes to activate your windows

How would it install? The OS came pre installed when I ordered my pc from Dell. I just plan on using the HDD again and I dont know how I would get OS to work can you please elaberate

Pre-installed OEM Windows 8 is permanently tied to the computer upon which it was installed and cannot be transferred to another. The key is in two parts, one of which is embedded in the motherboard BIOS by the manufacturer. A different motherboard will not have this.

I talked to a Windows License Support person, and they said to contact the Windows desk and ask for reactivation. I heard if you ask nicely they might reactivate your OS.

I thought this was solved but apparently not...for some reason the installer refuses to use my product key. And I tried using powershell and it just said my key was BBBB-BBBB-BBBB-BBBB-BBBB

No but I think I understand why I can't get the image...I believe its because my windows is still activated...is this true because when I tried the installed micky sent me it said "cannot be used to make a retail version of windows"

The old install? When I got my PC from Dell and booted, it instantly start with Windows 8 personalization. So what do you mean old install?
