I have setup dual monitors (extended) using an HDMI cable to a projector and a VGA cable (50 feet) to a monitor.

The projector is a new Epson 95 powerlite. I have had it hooked up via a VGA for months and no problem.

I hooked it up with the HDMI today, to do the dual monitors and after a few hours, the epson projector starts flipping on and off.

By 'on and off' I mean that it was as if the "AV/Mute" button was being pushed. If you aren't familiar, the button cuts the bulb and sound without powering down the projector, allowing you to quickly recall them.

My question is, could this be the video card or is it more likely to be an issue with the projector? I tried two different HDMI cords. It's going to be hard to troubleshoot because it doesn't happen all the time.

thanks for your thoughts.

the graphics card is fine, if you used to use VGA for a while without any issue, then that concludes that part.

Since it isn't the cables, i am more intrigued to the video ports on both the projector and the graphics card. If you have VGA-HDMI, that could test both the HDMI on the GPU and the HDMI on the projector, as both VGA's are known to already work.

Is your suggestion to hook up something to the projector, via HDMI and something to the PC, via HDMI and see if either give the same affect?

... that sounds like a good idea, even if that wasn't what you were suggesting. Thanks!
