So i recently brought a new GPU (Sapphire 7870 XT Dual X) and I have had some real bad problems. Not with the GPU but with my CPU and PSU running it (Current CPU: AMD FX 4170 Quad Core 4.3ghz). Firstly it started to overheat and the monitor wouldn't work but the computer was on, then I idled for 10mins and it overheated again but would not turn back on. I brought a new PSU (Corsair CX750M) and it is now running! However... The CPU still over heats which is why I have came here. What would your suggestion be for a new CPU for me? Budget is about £100-£150 £180 at a push.

Any help/feedback appreciated!
Thanks

the FX 9590 is a very power hungry cpu and if your current cpu is overheating, this one is pretty much guaranteed to fry your motherboard as it's VERY unlikely yours is in-spec for the high TDP of it.

check out the fx 8320 or fx 6300. Ideally an unlocked i5 4670k and z87 motherboard is gonna give you the best fps, but many here have to do it on a budget, and any of the piledriver cpu's would be an improvement over your bulldozer cpu, they were notorious for being bad.

What new cpu cooler did you get? The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is good
Well, if the CPU is in dire straights, I would check to make sure that you have eliminated all variables before thrusting a new CPU into such conditions.

How do you know it is the CPU overheating? What case and cooling do you have? (Ambient temperature?)

I know it's the answer because everything else has been replaced/changed/upgraded from my old set up. Except from the cpu. and I only have a basic coolerat the mo but I have a new bigger one coming tomorrow so in all honesty that could be the problem. I just wanna know what cpu you would suggest so I am prepared. What do you think about the AMD 9590?

Thanks for that information. I know that my CPU is atrocious really, but im trying to get around upgrading CPU by getting a new cooler... The cooler you're suggesting is the one thats being delivered tomorrow. I am just preparing for the fact that i still might have to upgrade the CPU. What do you think about the FX 8350 Black Edition?

I have the exact same GPU as you, I've paired it up with an Intel i5 4670. I have a CM Hyper 212 EVO on the CPU to keep temps down and it works brilliantly, I've benchmarked and my temps peaked at 63C. Mine cost me $260AUD around June last year, I have no idea how much it is now especially not in pounds sorry.

That cooler will be far better than your stock one. Your motherboard will not handle an FX 8350. FX 6300 is the limit. An FX 6300 would be a vast improvement over what you have now. Here is another option. It would run far cooler.
