Hey.
My Windows 8.1 64 Bit has been randomly freezing since I changed my hard drive and replaced my CPU and motherboard. It froze during installation and somehow got through it after a hard reset. It still randomly freezes (not in safe mode) and I suspect that an installation freeze is causing this. I don't want to try reinstalling it because I am afraid that it will freeze on me and break my system. I have tried /sfc scannow, disabling dynamic ticks, clean boot, updating drivers, reinstalling drivers, etc. What can I do, and how can I get through a clean installation without freezing?

If it doesn't freeze in safe mode, it's not the Windows installation as such that's causing it, it's more likely to be caused by a third-party driver, or some third-party software you've installed which includes virtual drivers (eg third-party firewall, antivirus, even CD burning or virtualisation software).

You can uninstall one of those at a time, see how your PC runs for an hour, and when your PC no longer freezes, the last application or driver you uninstalled was the culprit so don't re-install that item.

Okay... what drivers are safe to uninstall/disable? And should I uninstall or disable? This is a pretty new PC, and if it froze during setup (before I downloaded/installed anything), it couldn't be a third party program causing it.
