8 Core vs 4 Core

If I were to build a computer an want it to play Ultra max settings with AA maxed out an resolution scale at 200% would it benefit me greatly to have an 8 core (FX8350) or 4 core (i5xxxxk) or would the benefit not be worth the price?

Pretty sure there is no game currently available that uses 8 cores. Ofcourse in the ''future'' 8 cores may be used for games, but currently I am almost certain that even the most performance hungry games(graphics wise) utilize 6 cores let alone 8.

Yeah, I think the best processor really for most everyone out that that games is the Intel i5. The i7 for more demanding tasks, and an i3 if you can't afford the i5. Then maybe an AMD APU for the low, low budget side.

AMD FX processors are really just out of the game, and most every game cannot take advantage of the FX processors. You will also pay $20 more a year in electricity with one of those grossly inefficient and intensely hot AMD FX's.

To answer your question, Zombie615, go with the Intel 4 core. In most games, that is by far the best, and Intel really leads AMD in every aspect. In 2-3 years once games take advantage of more threads, maybe AMD will have a better chip and you can buy that, but for now, get an i5.

Well right now I have the shameless A-10 6700 3.7ghz Quad-Core paired with an EVGA GTX 750ti Sc an it seems to do alright in most games unless its online multiplayer than it struggles. I can play battlefield 4 on high settings when doing the campaign. All other games that I enjoy easily play on highest settings. My problem is everyone tells me the APU I have isn't good enough for gaming at high to ultra settings. How much does the CPU I have actually matter since it's already a 4 core which you guys said is the best for gaming right now.

I guess I should say I don't understand how the APU I have is bad for gaming when it has 3.7ghz quad core. I go to PCPartspicker an click the speed tab an out of all the processors out there its near the top of the list with the 3.7ghz.

Also, which i5 is the best out there right now? i5-2550k

Let's back up. An AMD 4-Core is not good. The Intel 4-Core is much better, and that outperforms even AMD's 6-8 core CPUs in almost everything. Even a 2-core i3 Intel would outperform your current AMD A10.

An AMD 8-core would be better than what you have now, but not much, because of the number of threads that these games can take advantage of. The thing that makes AMD's 8-cores powerful is that it has 8 cores. On the other hand, Intel's CPU's have more power per core, which makes an Intel 4-core in many cases better than an AMD 8-core.

I also have an AMD a10 (the 5800K instead) and I would have to say that you need a new system with Intel parts. You could upgrade to bigger and better AMD APUs (the a10-7850K) but those won't be much above your current CPU at all.

Save up your money, build an Intel i5 PC, and pair your 750 Ti with that and you will be golden.

Take care!

what resolution are you aiming at? i've a feeling someone will persuade you with a benchmark showing 1024x768 as indicative of real world gaming performance.

either way, a 4th gen intel i5 + a good graphics card geforce 780 and r9 290 and up will be a good target if you're going to play @ 1080p. 16xAA is pretty hard to render with current gen games. it even gets funkier once you up the resolution and set a target fps you want to play at. i didn't understand what resolution scale at 200% meant.

I think a GTX 780 or r9 290 is overkill at 1080p. I think his 750 Ti is already good enough to play well enough. at 1080, but correct me if im wrong. If you wanted to futureproof I guess.

Stick with your 750 Ti. That is a very good card right now. Upgrade later once prices drop and then you can be ready for the next big games once your 750 Ti is obsolete.

My 750ti Superclocked does okay with most games it's just games like BF4 that puts a beating on it. I can play at 1080p High settings if I'm doing campaign. Once I hit the multiplayer it cripples the card down to Medium settings.

didn't you say you want MAX AA? that's 16xAA-32xAA. again a 750ti, if you're really serious with the conditions you specified will not suffice. probably a 280x/770 as minimum to keep the budget stricter but 780 & an r9 290 can be oc'd to reach 780ti/290x performance.

Hmm that's interesting. I think your CPU is bottle necking because multiplayer really probably shouldn't use a lot more GPU, but I am really not sure. Check this out:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2014/02/18/nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-review/5

It looks like the 750 Ti is barely playable on Ultra, averaging just under 30 FPS. Looking at that chart, I would recommend looking at getting a r9 290, or a GTX 770 if you are serious about playing on Ultra. Looking at the website, I am thinking that maybe the 750 Ti actually may be the bottleneck, because their testbed CPU is definitely not the bottleneck.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Yeah. I would really look at that 4670K. Sell your 750 Ti and get a GTX 770 or 290 and pair that with that i5 and you will be a happy camper!

to be fair the r9 290 is where the money's at. especially with the aftermarket coolers. just a bit of advise since framerates are essential in pawning people in multiplayer, i'd stick to medium quality. the higher the fps the easier it is to kill. you'll miss a bit of dust here and there but then again racking up kills is so much satisfying.

lol so I should play on low settings with my A10 6700 + 750ti so I can get more kils? How am I suppose to see someone off in the distance.
