Hi all,

Approximate Purchase Date: immediately

Budget Range: 300ish, a little flexible

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, browsing.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, mobo, RAM. Existing PS model I have is an Ultra 550 watt ps model #LSP550

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: anywhere

Location: Raleigh, NC

Parts Preferences: Prefer Intel but not set on it

Overclocking: I'd like to, not necessary though

SLI or Crossfire: Nice to have, but not necessary.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1440x900

Additional Comments: No particular needs other than decent gaming performance. I mostly play World of Tanks/WarThunder.

Why Are You Upgrading: Current mobo/CPU is around 8 years old...I've squeezed all the life out of it I can.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I have 300 dollars to spend. I have everything I need but mobo/CPU/RAM. My current video card is a GTX 760, I have a newish case, and all peripherals.

One idea I've been toying with is to spend a good portion of my budget on a nicer motherboard and buy 4gb RAM and a Pentium G860 for now with the intention of buying an I5-XXXX/more memory in the near future. Keep in mind that I'm currently using a Core2 Duo E6400 so it would be a large improvement. If anyone has any comments/suggestions on this idea I'd love to hear them.

Otherwise I'm open to whatever you suggest.

Thanks for the help.

This is a good intel option if you don't plan on overclocking:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($194.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI H87-G43 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($74.79 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($72.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $312.77
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Locked i5 so you can't overclock but you should be able to play games very well on stock speed anyways.
Should be able to get an i3 plus decent mobo plus 8gb ram in your price range.

If you plan on getting an i5 soon then do a pentium now just so you dont put too much into the CPU, and you can get a nicer board if desired.

If it will be a good while, get the i3 now and the i5/i7 when you can.

No cpu warranty for you . The 1.65 volt RAM is rubbish

And like Real Chaoses build its not as strong as the AMD build I suggested

Once you factor in potential overclocking of the AMD the intel isnt even close
