I didn't have a pc for a new months. I bought a new mobo/cpu and now the keyboard isn't working. It is a Rosewill RK-9100. It comes with 2 usb plugs. One for the keyboard and one for the backlight on keys. The backlight is on but the keys are unresponsive.

To add: It is USB as said. I have tried all 4 USB ports in the back and the 2 in front. The usb for the backlights work but not for the keyboard itself. if the main USB is not plugged in the 2nd usb(for lights) does not light up the keyboard. So, only when both are plugged in the keyboard is lit.

Solution
So it powers all those fancy lighting effects, a keyboard and two USB ports from just two USB ports which together max out at 500mA assuming they come under the same controller? Maybe it simply came to the end of life.

It shows in device manager as HIM? It also shows in BIOS. I've tried updating the driver and uninstalling and rebooting. No luck. It did not come with a CD. I also checked on Rosewill site for a driver but there isn't one for the keyboard.

Is there enough cable to allow you to pop each USB connection into completely separate ports. I'm thinking maybe the two you're using are maxed out on their 500mA rating. One of them could support the backlighting and perhaps another device which draws less power than your keyboard functions. Try one port at the rear of the case and one on the front to be certain.

You may get a clue from the USB section of Device Manager. There will be a Power Management tab for each separate entry.

The card is too short. I plugged one into the front and one on the side. Still no luck. The lights are on but keys are still unresponsive. I tried the keyboard on a laptop and it does the same thing. Lights up but doesn't work
