Thickest Radiator Possilbe?

Hi all!

So I'm planning to move my hard drive cage completely and move my drives to my optical bay.
This gives my a lot of space from the front fans to and the main interior where all the other components lie.

So my question is, what is the thickest, best performing 240mm radiator? And also, is it even practical to have a radiator thats so thick? How much does the size of the radiator effect it's performance?

if you want the best water cooling performance, length is usually better than the thickness, as it has a greater surface area that the fans can blow through and increases heat dissipation. get the longest that you can, the think about thickness.

Thanks for the reply.

Since it's going to go over the front panel dual 120mm fans, 240mm is the biggest I can get.

thickness or depth of the rad also increases the surface area increasing performance its just important to use high performance fans that have high static pressure rating not just high airflow to maximise the performance of the rad

First off, is this to add to an existing water cooling solution or some new setup, and if it is new what will you be cooling and is overclocking involved.

Things have changed a lot in the 240 rad design as the older thick releases required high static pressure cooling fans and high static pressure fans are loud, though it may cool descent, you cannot stand the noise coming from the cooling fans.

In the beginning most don't concern themselves with noise but it can become very irritating over time.

So you need to decide what the purpose of the rad is for, meaning is overclocking involved?, and what type cooling fans will the radiator require to do it's cooling job?

Anyway you look at it there's only so much cooling field can be crammed into a 240 sized rad, and once you reach the rads cooling limits then that's as much cooling from it you will ever get.

Alphacools Monster 240 is probably what you're looking for but to get the best performance go ahead and plan on getting a really good fan controller to control the fan speeds when just surfing the net and such.

i assume you are just cooling your cpu and not a full loop?

if just cpu than 240mm is more that enough to cool a mild - extreme overclock, i recommend the corsair h100i
if you are doing a full loop (especially if you have more than one gpu) than get a 240mm radiator and put a another single 120mm radiator somewhere else in the loop

It was actually going to be for the graphics card.

I heard the Corsair water cooling loops have bad radiators so I was thinking if it was possible to make a loop which has the liquid inside the tubes instead of the reservoirs, and operates just like the H100, but which parts that I picked out, in this case a thicker, better quality radiator and maybe better waterblock and tubes.

It's a shame there are so many opinions posted but not a single answer. To provide an actual answer:
The thickest radiators I've found are the 80mm deep Monsta radiators from Alphacool (http://www.alphacool.com/product_info.php/info/p1031_Alphacool-NexXxoS-Monsta-480.html).

With a radiator that thick you'll definitely want to use push/pull. For an optimal push/pull configuration you'll want to use a static pressure fan for push and an airflow fan for pull. For example you might use Noctua NF-F12s for push and Noctua NF-S12As for pull.
