Hey All,

Need some help.

Im going to be upgrading from a HD 5870 2GB

And I was looking at these two cards in particular as there on sale on the site I normally buy my hardware from.

Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 Windforce 4GB @ $449 AUD

XFX Radeon R9 280X Double Dissipation 3GB @ $329 AUD

I Play in 1920x1080 on a 24" Monitor and my cpu is Phemon II X4 965 BE clocked at 3600

So im just wandering is the extra 100$ worth it?

More about : xfx radeon 280x double dissipation 3gb gigabyte radeon 290 windforce 4gb

I was looking at the 290 vs the 280x myself at one point. I hope this helps. i ended up with the r9 280x DD by XFX myself and am very happy with it. The reason being that even though the 290 or 290x would be higher performance, the level of power i truly needed was met with the 280x. I found that the one area that would have noticeable difference was in using a 4k monitor and since I mostly play in 1080p and maybe 1440 in the near future, the 280x has plenty of power for that. I won't be going to 4k for awhile, until games are more supported by it so for the savings in cost, the 280x did the trick and I have to say I'm not disappointed!

I have a Antec True Power Quatro 1000W

Either way thanks for all the info guys, but I'm planing to hold on to my 5870 for a bit longer, might clean out the heat-sink and paste on it to get more life out of it as it does what i want it to do for the moment, when I get around to fixing my work-space to accommodate a multi monitor set up I'll think about it then, hopefully Nvidia's 800 series will be out and well reviewed by then.
