Hi,

I'm looking for a new gaming headset and after I few searches, I really like the PC 360 from Sennheiser. Very good reviews and looks comfortable.

Now, I was asking myself if I needed a better sound card for it because this headset is about 250$.

I use the onboard audio chip on my ASUS P8P67 Pro motherboard, Do I need to buy a dedicated sound card ?

Which one ?

absolutly you need a sound card. the quialty of the audio from your speaker is only as good as the source. the better the headphones (in your case 250$ ones) then you absolutly need a medium to high end sound card. (if you cant afford that than just ANY sound card would be good) i recommend typing in Asus Xonar on amazon and buying the most expensive on you can afford as they are usually the best quailty sound cards at the price.

Hi Oleonius
Absolutely a dedicated sound card will make a world of difference the quality of a dedicated card will leave your onboard audio for dead
craeative x-fi or asus xonar are probably two of the best , there are a lot of options in both , mainly depends on your budget

not necessarily. it is optional, not mandatory.

i have a pair of audiotechnica ath-m50s which retail go for about $180 (but you can commonly get them for about $120) and they get used most often on a laptop (with the integrated sound), a cell phone and a ipod (without a fiio or other external amp/dac). they sound much better than any low end headsets even without using any extra equipment.

the only time i would say it is mandatory is if you have audio issues like crackling, buzzing, hissing or popping coming from your onboard soundcard or if the onboard cannot power the new headphones. if this isnt the case then its optional.

now, with that said a good soundcard can definitely improve the quality of sound and is definitely suggested if its in budget. the best option would actually be not a soundcard but an external DAC+AMP since it is totally isolated from the pc internals for the best possible sound.
