Short version: A friend is looking to upgrade his processor to an i5-xxx, What should he fill in for the xxx?

Longer version: This friend's son plays games and believes that his CPU is slowing things down. I'm not convinced but there's no arguing... After screwing up the first time and getting a CPU that was incompatible (4th gen versus 3rd gen), I feel I must ask for advice this time. (Fortunately the vendor agreed to take the CPU back.) Ideally this would be a drop-in replacement without having to update BIOS, etc.

His current system is:
Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz Dual-Core Processor

GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

10GB RAM
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive

EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti Video Card
Antec NSK 4482B Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
SILVERSTONE Strider Plus ST50F-P 500W ATX 12V v2.3 & EPS 12V 80 PLUS BRONZE

Thank you!

Depending on exactly what they use it for, it may or may not make a difference. But if they are committed to change, that CPU is a perfect fit.
I have the same motherboard and the i5-3570k.
