I am attempting to build a PC for my son but i am having serious issues with power.

we have the following parts:
G7 power extreme 780W PSU
MSI MS-7366 Revision 2.2 MOBO
2Gb Swissbit Ram
Factory heatsink and fan

I have disconnected EVERY other wire and component.

I have borrowed a power supply tester and there is power coming from the 20 pin connection. all other power leads also register power on the tester.

I connect the 20 pin and 4 pin to the board. connect the cpu fan and insert the memory. Short the power switch and the fan spins for a split second but there is no beep. I then have to remove the power for a minute before reconnecting the power to try again. Clearly there is an issue somewhere in the board but I am struggling to find it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

i was following this guide which led to the breadboard situation. I have however realised one of the 4 pin connectors actually attaches to the 20pin lead, however I still have no result.

still fans spin for split second and nothing else happens.
I should say I have tried both of the 4 pin connectors and neither produced a beep on startup.

thank you

I have had a friend check the main board for faults at a component level and we discovered that an FET was causing the problem. New FET has been ordered and I will report back if we manage to bring the board back to life.

Thanks for the advice so far folks.

haven't had much time to update thread. I attempted to repair the motherboard and solder a new FET but in the process i nudged several components when I sneezed and at that point took the hint and binned the whole project lol. Maybe i'll have more luck next time.
