HI,

I am after a little guidance with upgrading my pc. I am looking to upgrade my ATI 5770 to either a AMD r9 270 or 270x.

I am after some guidance whether it would be suitable with the rest of my current setup which is:

Intel I5 750 @2.6 1156
GA-P55-US3L rev 2.0
4 GB adata 1333 ram
psu XFX pro 550 w
Power color ATI 5770 1 GB
1 TB hard drive
W 7 64 bit.

IS there much difference between 270 and 270x for the extra money? and if so which brands are good one ie msi, xfe etc.

Or is it better I upgrade other parts before the gpu? I have around £120 this time round. I mainly play world of Tanks at the mo.

Thanks in advance.

Some points: Probably the best option would be the less expensive R9 270 2Gb, look for one with a good cooler and with a little tweaking it'll run close to the more expensive 270X.
Swapping to an i7 870 isn't likely to help much, there is still very few games that can use 4 cores/8 threads, you'll be better off looking into overclocking the existing CPU, 3.4GHZ is really easy to hit and only needs a Hyper 212 Evo for additional cooling.
I know this is pushing it but the R9 280 would actually be a better fit to the current system-if you can overclock-and particularly if you're on a 1080 monitor but it's well beyond your current budget so consider this as a 'maybe I'll wait' kind of suggestion.
A few places to look: Dabs, Aria, Scan...

Thank you, I suspect I won't be upgrading the CPU, just had a quick look at prices and they still seem quiet expensive for the i7 870. Would it be better to get a less expensive card (I appreciate this one is not the most expensive anyway) that's more suited to the age of the rest of the components?

Thanks again

I have a 1080p monitor, I reckon I opt for the 270. Is there any one make which is better. I have seen a 270x for £139 on aria which is made by xfx or for £134 Gigabyte Radeon R9 270 OC WINDFORCE 2GB AMD

I've had a bad experience with an XFX cooler on my HD7950, it was cool enough but just so loud in the end I swapped it for the Gelid Icy Vision aftermarket cooler so my judgement may be off here but I'd go with the Gigabyte Windforce card and give it a little more overclock.
