The GTX 780 is retailing for $499.99
The Sapphire is $439.99

Likely to crossfire/SLI whichever card is chosen in the future.

Which do you think is better?

In my opinion, the extra gig of memory helps with games with heavy textures and a r9 290 at that price is absolutely worth it. A 60 dollar difference for a few frames difference is awesome. Save the money for the crossfire since you want to. But if you are remaining on 1080p, it is only worth getting one card.

Yeah, you want the sapphire r9 290 vapor-x cards in crossfire, the extra mem in crossfire makes more than a marginal difference versus the GTX 780 in SLI. Also, given the Sapphire cards ability to overclock and the non-bridge increase in multi-gpu scaling performance, there is no comparison.

That is the same reason why if you are going to debate a r9 290x vs GTX 780 Ti, you just need to ask whether you are going to SLI/Crossifre, if yes the r9 290x (non-ref of course) cards are a much better choice, if no the 780 Ti beats the r9 290x hands down. Furthermore, you need to consider display resolution, multi-display, don't SLI/Crossfire where unnecessary...

Just check out any "Best GPUs for the money" reports. The last section will nearly always inform you that 2 x 290x in crossfire is the best for multi-display, multi-gpu solutions right now.

That PNY OC model comes with a very nice custom PCB, custom components, and a very effective cooler. PNY also offers a Lifetime Warranty, which obviously can't be beat and is well worth it (speaking from experience).

The Sapphire card only has a 2 year warranty, but everything else the same, except include a custom backplate along with the pcb and a few extra tweaks. If you are going to buy Nvidia, PNY is not your top choice, if you are going to buy AMD, Sapphire is.

Tommy Boy (The Movie): "If you want me to warranty a piece of shit, I can crap in a box and sell it to you Ted, but if you want to keep your daughter safe, buy from me...."

I am not saying anything bad about PNY or Nvidia, in fact on most accounts Nvidia in general is superior on more aspects, however, in this debate it is not true. The link above leads you to another stupid comparison of video cards. Reference r9 290 cards against custom GTX 780. Get more evidence, here is stronger evidence for you:

Kitguru demonstrates that once overclocked, the Sapphire card in question outperforms both r9 290x custom cards and 780 Ti Overclocked editions.

To quote:

The Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X OC is the star of the show today. We feel the R9 290 makes more sense than the more expensive R9 290X. With the amount of overclocking headroom available on this Sapphire card, it is straightforward enough to outperform the fastest overclocked GTX780 Ti solutions, nevermind a reference R9 290X.
