hello

i build a new pc before 3 months

My motherboard now is Asus Z87Pro

i took my old ram Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1600MHz (CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10) and put it in, the pc works fine but after that i noticed in motherboard's manual that this RAM isn t recommended...but the same RAMs x2 are!! which means Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB 1600MHz CL10 DDR3 Memory Kit works!

i need another RAM cause my motherboard is Dual channel and i only got that 1X8GB ram

so if i buy another Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1600MHz (CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10) it would be like 2 module like the kit that s recommended right?

sorry for my english
i think i don t have any prob and i don t know if it is good or bad for my pc

Solution
The QVLs are pretty worthless, the big thing at the moment with only a single stick is that you are running the DRAM in single channel mode which is lower, performance wise than dual channel can offer, but you aren't going to hurt anything by running a single stick ;)

Actually yes and no, the sticks in a two stick package are tested to work together, buying two single sticks, there's no guarantee they will play nice....you can pull consecutive sticks right off the assembly line and they may not play together. Also the SPD is programmed by the package, i.e. 1 stick takes a lower tRFC timing than does 2 sticks, which is less than a 3 or 4 stick package. This is also why a 2 stick package tends to cost a bit more than 2 single sticks or a 4 stick set cost more than 2 two sticks sets, it can take longer in testing to find 4 sticks that will all play nice....If mixing sticks was so easy all they would do is sell single stick packages and actually make more money....Mixing and it being problematic is the biggest cause of RMAs with DRAM

so if you were me what would you do?

140 euro is too much to buy a new compatible kit

70 euro is quit good to buy the same one

if the difference is insignificant, i don t see other solution than buying the same one ram
