In the process of building a new computer. Starting from scratch. Will be building it from the
processor outward. Will be getting intel i7 970 six core processor. Could I get recommendations
for the most efficient motherboard for this processor. Also getting Windows 7 Ultimate 64x O/S.
Plus 16 to 32 gb ram. I do a lot of video editing. And a high end graphics card.

I know that there are faster processors like 980 and 990 but for the price and functionality the 970 fits in my budget. The bench tests are not that
different and I will use other hardware like RAM and Graphics Cards to compensate. Plus an efficient motherboard can also provide more speed
and power. But if you can tell me the clear advantages of the other processors please advise.

That processor is about 3 years old current generation 6 cores are called 4960X or 3960X but there is no reason to get 6 core processor in a computer as most programs cant even use 6 cores its essentially throwing money away i would just get 4770K at most and invest the money into the graphics cards. but if you insist on getting 6 core best choice would be 4930K sandy bridge but before you do I want you to be aware that in about 6 months new generation of motherboards and CPus are coming out that should be vastly improved over these and will most likely use ddr4 Ram.

Thank you for the reply. Now would these new processors and motherboards also be overkill. If the 4770k or 4930k will handle the video editing
with no problems, then would it be ok to stick to your suggestion. Wouldn't the new hardware be pretty expensive compared to the 4770k and 4930k?
I just want something that will be reliable and efficient and not be at a point where most the bells and whistles wont even be used and just costs a lot
of extra money.

4770K fits on different socket than all those and is much cheaper and motherboard will cost a lot less in my opinion 4770k would be your best bet this particular socket is getting a refresh in 2 weeks but there wont be anything much better in it so you could just get this.
