Hello everyone. While gaming today I noticed that my CPU, an AMD A10 5800K, was reaching 70°C, which is alarming considering my computer will shutdown when the CPU reaches 74°C. Normally it never goes beyond 64°C under heavy load. I noticed that the fan speed was only 3,400 RPM when the CPU was running really hot. My question is, what is the maximum fan speed for the stock AMD cooler packaged with the AMD A10 5800K? I seem to recall seeing the CPU fan speed at around 6,000 RPM under load in the past, but I could be wrong. I don't mind if the fan is loud, I just want to make sure my CPU doesn't overheat.
I am not overclocking the CPU and I replaced the stock thermal pad with Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound about 6 months ago. I also recently cleaned the dust from the inside of my computer so it is nice and clean inside. I checked my BIOS settings (my motherboard is an ASRock FM2A75M-DGS) and I set the CPU fan to "Full On", but that didn't seem to do anything. The BIOS firmware is up to date, as are all the drivers for the motherboard. I guess I should also mention that I am not using the CPU as an APU as I have an MSI R9 270 installed for gaming, so the integrated graphics are disabled.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Here's a quick update: I tested my computer with the same scenario (playing the same game in the same area) and this time my CPU fan was spinning at 6,200 RPM and the CPU was staying between 64°C and 67°C. I'm not really sure why the fan wasn't spinning very fast when it was at 70°C. This is after I changed the BIOS setting for the CPU fan from automatic to "Full On". Maybe that was the problem; I'm not sure.
