Hi guys so I've been having this problem for about a week or so now and its driving me crazy. The problem is occurring on my wired desktop. It appeared out of the blue and I've been trying numerous online fixes for this and nothing has worked yet. Some days i will get some internet access accompanied by a disconnect a few minutes to a few hours later. Other days the internet will just not work at all.

One of the ways i got the problem to temporarily disappear was to disable then enable my network card a minute or so later. My ipv4 settings are set to automatic. I've tried unplugging the router and restarting the computer and plugging it back in to no success. I have also tried uninstalling the network card and re installing then restarting the computer.

The other devices connected to the router all seem to work and connect fine, 3 iPhones, a laptop(wireless) and an xbox 360(wired).

Here is my ipconfig /all:

Looks like you are missing a default gateway address. Make sure to have that set as automatic as well. I would suggest disabling the IPv6 and see if it works with just IP4. Check your cable, and try a different cable and router port. Possibly a bad cable or port.

Thanks for the response, I disabled IPv6 and made the default gateway adress in IPv4 automatic aswell as tried a different port and cable, however I am still getting the problem unfortunately.

Your IP4 is showing a 169.X.X.X You need to verify the router settings for DHCP, either it is not assigning a local IP, or the PC is not set correctly for it. The subnet should also be 255.255.255.0 with an IP in the 192.168.x.x area depending on your setup.

I've checked my router settings and it is set to yes on DHCP server. Should I just assign a static IP? Sorry if I'm not following you very well I am not very knowledgeable in this field.

Since the automatic way isn't working would setting a static IP potentially fix the problem, also what negative effects would resetting my router to factory defaults bring, and would it most likely fix the problem? thanks

Resetting it back to factory may fix it. But, with it you'd have to reset it, all the security and any other custom settings you may have done in the past, will have to be done again. With setting up static ip's you'd have to manually assign IP's too all the devices that attach to it
