i5 4970 vs i5 4670k

So I bought the i5 4670k and I haven't bought the motherboard yet, I was planning on getting the maximus vi hero but then I heard the z97 rog series is coming out on may 10, I also read the devils canyon cpu series is also coming out, and today is my final day to return the i5 4670k, should I return it and wait for the haswell refresh or should I keep the 4670k and use it with a z97 motherboard, are they compatible as well?

It is compatible and exchanging it for something with +/-5% performance difference is hardly worth while.

Alright thanks for your reply, Why would they make z97 boards then? If the haswell CPUs are compatible with z97 wouldn't that mean the haswell refresh is compatible with the z87 boards?

The 97 is a refresh of the chipset, basically more tech http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-chipset-rumor-9-series,26408.html The haswell refresh will be compatible with the older boards with a BIOS update. Just like when LGA 1155 swapped between 6 and 7 series chipsets.
