Rebuilt an i5 Asus Motherboard adding a Corsair 750 PSU, Asus GTX770. CPU SpeedFan Test showing 80+ degrees and shuts down on gaming when it hits 90+. Cores at 35-40 celcius. Put a much more powerful cooler on it - Akasa X4 but no difference. Do I need something more powerful on the CPU cooler? Changed the BIOS to run the fan at max but also no difference.

Thanks lucasburns - Thermal paste doesn't seem great and I'm suspecting that the bond between the heatsink/fan and the cpu isn't good enough. The paste is still wet and I've only got a thin layer of it. What's the Akasa like - tempted to take it back and get something else. I've not overclocked the GPU yet, just set it on gaming mode which will overclock it a bit and put the processor on performance but tried that on economy and all the same - cpu running too high.

You need to clean the plate and re-apply thermal past, don't switch from F to C on me. What are you using, HWmonitor Pro? if you have a gap of 40c then I would say you applied thermal incorrectly, but that still sounds funky. Could you give more details, did you OC it?

SpeedFan. Gave it a thin smooth layer but the fact that it is not gelling is a bit suspect so does seem like a naff paste. Will it make so much of a difference? The copper coils and cooling fins are cold so it seems there is no contact even though it seems locked into the motherboard ok.
