I have a hp pavilion 15 i5 windows 8 Internet worked fine for a few months. Yesterday it said connected but things didn't load on ie and chrome. I have seen others with this problem but for wifi but wifi works fine I have tried reinstalling adapters but this was useless . Any help would be great.
Try resetting the browser settings to default, also check the hosts file in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc directory, make sure it does not have any additional entries in it.
Did anything get installed or removed/changed before this started?
I reset browser settings but there were no changes. I omly installed updates for office 2013 and I am not quite sure what you mean by the additional entries
The hosts file should normally only contain the local host entry in it along with the commented out lines. When was the last time you tested the hotspot with another device? Try another device again if it's been a while.
Try setting the laptop to a time before it stopped connecting though a restore point.

I don't know what the host file is. Im useless when it comes to that. The restore point had no effect and wifi hot spot still doesn't work.

I found the the c:/system32/drivers/etc there are 6 files hosts, hosts (icalender file), imhosts.sam, networks, protocol and services
