Hello everyone,

I have gotten myself in a pickle here and was hoping you experts can help me out.
Let me explain my problem from beginning.
Icurrently own a Netgear D6300 and its really an awsome router.

I did speak to a netgear costumer service regarding the problem but i am in still some confusion.I will paste some logs of the conversation to describe my problem:

Angelie: Good evening Mr. Kumar.
Angelie: How may I assist you today?
Arun Kumar: let me explain my situation to you
Angelie: Okay.
Arun Kumar: cuttently i live in chennai where i have a D6300 router
Arun Kumar: i have no problem with my router and it is running perfectly
Arun Kumar: but ,due to some personal reasons i have to move out of chennai to a small town
Arun Kumar: where they have not yet laid down the phone cables cables to reach my house
Arun Kumar: A third party ISP is offering to give inter net ,but i am un familiar with there way of giving internet
Arun Kumar: they install an antena on the rooftop and that provides the internet
Arun Kumar: Apprently the output of that should be given to an ethernet switch for internet distribution
Arun Kumar: now my question is ,if i give that antena output to my D6300 WAN port will it work?
Angelie: As I understand, you want to know if you can use the D6300 modem router to act as a router which will allow multiple devices to be connected to the Internet with your ISP connection, is that correct?
Arun Kumar: yes
Arun Kumar: its the antena to router connection which is my problem,if i plug it into the WAN port ,will it work?
Angelie: Alright. To answer your inquiry, you should be able to get Internet connection with the WAN port of the router provided that you are able to go online with the computer directly connected to the antenna or when taking the router out of the picture.
Angelie: Are you able to go online with just the antenna to computer connection?
Arun Kumar: I have been told that the antena when connected to a ethernet switch ,if iplug a LAN cable to the switch i get internet,so yeah i guess i can say i can go online directly?
Arun Kumar: simply put ,ccan i use the router as an access point with this kind of setup?
Angelie: You may try to verify with the ISP that you will be able to go online with just the LAN connection from the antenna to the computer. If you can go online that way then you will be able to configure the D6300 to take the WAN port Internet connection instead of a DSL port Internet connection.
Arun Kumar: ok

That's a brief jest of the problem,
My main doubt is that from the antenna ,if i give the output to the routers WAN port ,will it work?
(I mean would be just like connecting a modem(only modem, not modem+router) to a wireless router through the WAN port?)
I don't want to spend money on a Ethernet switch if i can use this router. :(

Please help
Arun

Yes on the back of the router one of the ports should say internet/WAN and you will just plug it in there. You may have to go to the management interface but it should set itself up.

You'll need to turn off DHCP on the router for it to act as a simple switch. Read this posting http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/33700-42-ultimate-mod... about cascading routers. Treat your ISP connection as the first router.

I see, also with this setup will all the additional features still work, like usb/printer share,QOS,port forwarding etc?

Port forwarding is only relevant on a router, same thing for QOS. Once you turn off the router features, it's just a switch. Printer share should still work though.
